Mental Health during quarantine

How many of you are feeling a bit sub-human right now? Like a lump on the couch whose new purpose in life is to binge watch every TV show in existence. Your snacks are gone and so is your motivation. I feel you.

Yes, sometimes even introverts aren’t immune to the affects of being cooped up. If we get stuck in a vicious overthinking circle or have an introvert hangover, it can be very difficult to pull ourselves out of it, especially if there are no commitments or appointments to get us moving.

Don’t fret though…there is hope! What I find helps me is to do basic things that I would normally do on any non-quarantine day, and all of this can be done in under 2 hours! You may discover that you’ll have to force yourself to do them, but it will be worth it if it makes you feel even a tiny bit more normal. Every bit of progress is better than making the rut in your couch bigger. Here are some ideas:

Make Your Bed – Productivity makes us feel accomplished. When you roll out of bed in the morning, don’t keep rolling straight to the couch. Take a couple minutes and perform this simple task to jump start your day.

Soak Up Some Sun – I don’t know how this works, but it gives me an overall feeling of wellness. Go outside. Do an activity or kick back in a lawn chair, but get some natural light for 20-30 minutes.

Take A Shower – There is just something about a nice, hot, relaxing shower that makes me feel energized and ready to take on whatever the day brings. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard people say that a shower makes them feel good.

Make Yourself Presentable – Even though you have nowhere to go and no one is coming to your house. Style your hair, shave, put on makeup…whatever it is you do get ready to be seen. Put on your super suit so you’re ready for whatever comes at you.

Get Moving – This doesn’t have to be a full blown workout, which to me is always a daunting task. Just take 20 minutes and be active. Walk around the block, take a short bike ride, go up and down your stairs, dance, or anything that gets your heart going. Oh, and don’t forget to stretch. Building or maintaining your flexibility is one of the best things you can do for your body.

These are only 5 easy things that can be helpful. Try them or add some of your own! Leave a comment and let me know what you’ve tried and how it affected you. I’d love to hear some results!
