I often think outloud, especially if I’m trying to focus intensely amidst intense noise or just when I’m frustrated, yet I’m definitely an introvert. I also try to get things done alone with nobody around because people think you’re asking for help or asking for their opinions when you think outloud and usually I’m not and I just find their butting in distracting.

I also find it much easier to say things when I write it or type it in which case a thought I formed in just a few seconds may fill pages. I also like the convenience of being able to go back and make it easier for people to understand if I do intend to share it with somebody (which most of the time I don’t). When I try to discuss things in conversation or texting or twitter I find it challenging because it’s hard to squeeze my thoughts into just a few words. I always end up thinking I didn’t fully communicate the gist of what I was thinking and that I missed important details. Often I just don’t bother to discuss what I’m thinking because it seems like too much effort.

Actors actually tend to be introverted believe it or not.

This is me as well. My thinking brain can move on to one thing after the other during the time it takes me to form a sentence and it is why I say random things at times. My brain has made the several connections to that point but my mouth has not.

I definitely struggle with speaking in the way the article describes, but I sometimes struggle with writing too, and I think it’s because my mind is moving so quickly that before I can finish the sentence I’m on, it’s moved on to two new ideas. I also tend to go over a thought so many times that I’ll rewrite a sentence multiple times or just lose my train of thought before I’m happy with it.

Is it really an extrovert world or is it that we just see more of them on tv because actors, news anchors and reporters, and politicians are usually extroverts?

It’s felt like I was reading my own thoughts and struggles. Over the years I’ve become more acutely aware that i struggle with small stalk and confrontation because if I don’t think first then my words slip out as stupid feet tumbling face in the mud answers. Compound by the fact that I now try to avoid social interactions because of preemptive fears based in past results.
I’ve also had people complain because I prefer to respond in written / message form rather than discuss things in person because I feel more structured that way rather than having to apologize because my word retrieval ability seems to be on vacation sipping martinis in the sun when I most need it.
Now that I know I’m not loosing my mind I can try to find ways to deal with it.

As soon as I attempt to put these thoughts into spoken words my thought process completely slows down. Yet when I am thinking about them in my head, i’m still using my inner voice to ‘speak’ them.

I find that it keeps me from joining into a conversation as I’m worried I’ll struggle to put my thoughts into words. It became so much worse however after getting married. My wife is an extrovert, and gets infuriated when I don’t immediately respond to things she has said to me, or respond in the right way. She always says she’s just trying to have a conversation and that I’m not trying. This in turn just makes it worse for me – my mind is exploding but it’s all a great big jumble and at best all I can muster is some sort of grunt. It infuriates me also as I believe I’m a pretty intelligent guy, and yet I can’t make words with my mouth :p 🙁

I know this comment is very late and you probably forgot about it, but I feel the need to respond even though you may not see this. I find it interesting that you bring up the Constitution amid your comment then throw in religion. I believe the Constitution gives people freedom of religion, that means they can believe or not believe whatever they want. If you want to raise your child in a religious setting under God, you do that at home, go to church, and send them to Catholic school. Also, the problem with putting God in school is that there are many different religions with different beliefs that people are allowed to have under the CONSTITUTION, and we must understand that children have the right to choose for themselves as well. These answers people give about people and evolution are backed by science and years of study. The bible is a book with no specific source or explanation that has been manipulated and translated too many times to count. I’m not knocking religion, just stating the truth. Also it’s annoying when people mention Black Lives Matter in their defense in this context. Surely, you understand it or are just too damn ignorant. It is a mainly black organization, but it is not just for black people. You say ALL live matter yet talk against “brown skinned people from the middle east”. A little ironic isn’t it? With everything going on nowadays you’d think people would realize not to blame an entire group of people for certain things. Yes, terrorism happens to be done by some “brown skinned people from the middle east” but not all of them. Not every one of those people want to blow something up. Just like not all black people want to rob and kill or cops want to kill minorities. I hate that people can throw hate on a group of people but defend another for the same thing. People need to wake up because it’s a stupid ass cycle that keeps repeating itself because people are too goddamn ignorant. Things would be easier if people got their heads out of their ass and actually listened to each other. And I am not saying that to any specific group of people, this comment is for everybody; white, black, asian, hispanic, liberal, conservative, whatever you are. We are human, forget the titles we give ourselves and all that fake shit we made up, we are all human so get over yourselves and actually listen. It’s sad that a 18 year old has to say these things. Adults need to really get their shit together and stop pointing fingers. Stop acting like overgrown children and actually grow up. Use your freaking brains.
Also I must add to the subject of the Constitution. It is an outdated source that completely contradicts itself. I hate to play the race the card but it is needed. These documents that built our nation were written by racist old white guys. “All men are created equal” did not include “all men”. “All men” meant all white wealthy males of certain descent. Immigrants that came later on in history were discriminated against as well; irish, italians, etc.The founding fathers did not mean to include people of color: blacks, spanish, etc. In fact a slave was just 3/5 of a person. The electoral college was made because they believed people were not capable of choosing someone to lead them. It’s time to get out of the past, stay in the present and prepare for our future because if we keep looking back that’s where we’re going to be. We need to fix our nation or we will fall.
