The reference to the “day job” was especially resounding; I am well over 25 years at my day job, having trapped myself there by joint decision regarding financial obligations. Not sure what the next step is; all avenues SEEM to either require money to facilitate or to have zero financial obligations at the start.

Hi Sara, I am an introvert engineer and found myself to be very effective online but when it came to talking to people about my skills I always panicked. For years, I have coached myself to help me through my fears and I would love to talk to you more about it. Please let me know if you have a few minutes to talk.

Hi Bodhi, Yes there are solutions if you are willing to consciously take measures. Please let me know if I can help.

Hi AJ. I do understand your pain. I went through being the silent introvert for a long time and have been reinventing myself over the last few years. It would be great if you had time to chat with me for a few minutes on SKYPE to understand burning pains and desires of introverts.

I am an introvert and have been in the same job (that I don’t love) for ten years. I’ve tried looking for new jobs, but if they aren’t perfect for me, I won’t submit a resume. My introversion doesn’t want another meaningless job, but it wants a job that defines who I am and understands that I am an introvert. My dream job is to be a freelance illustrator, but freelancing is challenging because you constantly have to put yourself out there. Being an introvert is hard, the world does not agree with us.

I relate to everything you wrote and I am struggling so much right now. I can’t seem to get ahead and I don’t know what to do…

I’ve earned my degree, I’m a hard worker, I’m willing and able to learn new things, that’s the easy part. The hard part is promoting myself to people, marketing myself even. Networking and letting people know that I have something to offer. I want my education and experience to speak for themselves, but in today’s world that’s just not enough. I envy extraverts who seem more naturally able to go out into the world and show people what they’re all about; my brain/personality just doesn’t work like that. In today’s job market it’s not about WHAT you know but WHO you know, and when you’re an introvert with an intentionally small network of friends and family, you obviously don’t have as much to work with. Not to mention so many lucrative jobs now require you to have all these great customer service and people skills, which is great, but when you’re an introvert that’s mostly comfortable and productive with sitting alone working on a task for several hours at a time with minimal human contact, finding well paying jobs (or any jobs for that matter) that cater to that type of personality is really more based on luck than anything.
