One of the key responsibilities of a meeting facilitator is to make sure everyone has a voice. Techniques such as Delphi — where most input is written and anonymous — are excellent for preventing a meeting from being monopolized by a few, or from everyone deferring to the senior-most people in the room. They work well both with kids at school and in the workplace.

My beef with group projects is slightly different. Usually, one or two students end up doing the bulk of the work and everyone else slacks off. An experienced teacher can spot when this happens; in one activity in college, the instructor gave As to those of us who clearly did the work, and flunked everyone else.
