My experience is similar but now that I have a son who is an introvert, I try to inform and educate his teachers. Happy to repost.

Things were much better for me in high school, too (minus the mean government teacher). The words and actions hurt a lot more the younger you are.

So glad that you encourage and support your quiet students! I wish I’d had many more teachers like you growing up. 🙂

I agree! He wasn’t a very good teacher, in general…

Somebody that ignorant should not be teaching teenagers about politics.

Your story gives me hope that teachers can become more open-minded. As an INFJ myself, I can relate to this as I had a similar past. Almost all of the teachers were extroverts during my elementary school years, but luckily things took a positive turn when I got to high school!

I try to reward them for being independent. ALL assignments in my class are customizable, from solo work, to very small groups, whatever suits my students. If anything, I may come down too hard on kids who never shut up, and who are constantly talking, because to me that seems like they aren’t focusing inwardly enough. As always, I try to be fair, firm, and consistent, and let all students know I like them as people and as students.
