How tired do y’all think I am when I’ve been out in public?
Thank God for my medication or I’d be going nowhere – ever.

You get to the point where you are afraid that you may say the wrong thing, or do the wrong thing, so you just freeze up. I am an empath and I need to work on simply not caring as much about what other people think.

I still listen at the door before leaving my apartment to make sure I don’t run into anyone. I used to go to the gym at 4 am so no one else would be there, now I just workout at home. My social anxiety has gotten better with age. It still bothers me when I want to go somewhere new. Sometimes it prevents me other times I can push through it. It just depends on what is going on with me that day. I’ve accepted this is the way I am. It’s how I was made, the way my brain functions. It’s my cross to bare.

Naming a condition is the first step toward understanding it, and then embracing the world on your own terms.

I am an introvert and people always perceive me as shy and I am not. I don’t think I have social anxiety disorder but if people yell at me to hurry up I put ear phones on my ears and don’t pay attention to them. Or I set my cell phone to block their calls. So I empathize with you in a sense because I like the duck and cover philosophy. When people brag to me about their credentials my response usually is “so?” because we are all people who wake up in the morning and do our routine.
