As I grew up I noticed that I never fit in an extroverted group where people yell and expose themselves obnoxiously and I always knew I was an introvert. However I made some really great friends that I felt content with and it is nice.

I’ve lived at my current city for over 2.5 years and haven’t made a local friend yet.

Through Ancestry and a family history project I met second cousins, a brother and sister, who “get it” perfectly. We plan a semi-annual get-together for lunch and catch up on all the goings on. We have a great time together that I remember happily in the weeks after. The rest of the time we contact through email or chat. Very short communications but pleasant and warm. It’s just enough and more than I ever expected.

Perhaps the ‘how you feel’ thing is too woman-focused (I’m a man), but I tend to notice what I think. I formulate my environment and my inner reality (or realities) in terms of thoughts and thinking, more than in the way I feel (that’s VERY secondary for me).

I disagree that we introverts are worried about rejection as if that’s our default setting. Most human beings worry about being misunderstood and rejected. So, forgive me for pointing out the sweeping generalization.

I’m learning so much about myself lately and passing it in to the few friends I have to help them understand me better.
